Cinco de Mayo Done Right!

Well, today is Cinco de Mayo and seeing as how we all love some good American style Mexican food, we thought we would share a few fun tips on how to throw together a small and simple Cinco de Mayo gathering.

A party can mean 100 people, or just you sitting on the couch with a margarita, eating chips and guac. I have a feeling that a few of us will be grabbing some tacos from the Burrito Window and doing just that! But if you want to go a bit more festive, here's our advice.

What is any Cinco de Mayo party without margaritas?!

To save time, make a pitcher of margaritas in advance! Making them individually is fun, but if you have more than one person you might find yourself having no time for anything but bartending.

An amazing and fun twist on the classic recipe is the Pink Cadillac Margarita. If you really want to get fancy, make some ice cubes out of pomegranate juice. You can throw them in the pitcher and they won't dilute the drink.

Pink Cadillac Margaritas

To avoid needing to shake, chill all of the ingredients ahead of time, and fill glasses with ice.

  • -2 cups tequila
  • -2 cups Lime Juice
  • -1 cup simple syrup
  • -1 cup Orange Liqueur
  • -1 cup Pomegranate Juice

Throw everything in a pitcher, garnish some glasses with a salt-sugar mix, lime wedges, ice and you are good to go! Now to the food!

Build Your Own Taco Bar

This may sound complicated, but it will actually save you time and you won't have to worry about a formal sit down dinner, who is dairy free, not eating gluten, or vegetarian. Let your guests feed themselves at their own pace. There are a million different variations of the taco bar, but here is a good basic place to start:

  • Corn Tortillas
  • Refried beans
  • Spanish rice
  • Chicken, Beef, Carnitas and Grilled Nopales for the Vegetarians!
  • Queso fresco
  • Limes
  • Cilantro
  • Diced yellow onions
  •  Zesty Guacamole
  • Hot Sauce, Sour Cream, Salsa (whatever else floats your boat!)

Bringing it all together!

Put on an awesome Pandora station, throw some Coronas in the cooler and relax, it's a party after all!
